About The Position

The Biomedical Engineering Department at The University of Akron invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with an anticipated start date of August 2027. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests include macroscale biomechanics, gait analysis, and prosthetic devices. The primary research interest is experimental biomechanics, although exceptional candidates with computational biomechanics expertise will also be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching and research mission, develop an independent, extramurally funded research program, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and actively participate in departmental activities. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline with a biomedical engineering emphasis. Postdoctoral training is preferred but not required for candidates at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates at the Associate Professor level are expected to have an active, nationally or internationally recognized research program. The department has more than 160 undergraduate students and offers ABET-accredited B.S. degrees, M.S. degrees in Biomedical Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree through the College. It emphasizes experiential learning, including cooperative education, undergraduate research, and participation in regional and national conferences. Interdisciplinary research collaborations include partners within the university, the Cleveland Clinic, Northeast Ohio Medical University, and local industries. Research has received support from the NSF, NIH, DoW, AHA, VA, foundations, and industry. Applicants must complete the online application and submit one PDF containing a cover letter; a detailed CV with a complete list of published and accepted papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and any funding record; a research vision and agenda highlighting fundable areas; a teaching statement describing teaching philosophy, courses the applicant can teach, and courses they would develop; and at least three references. Application review begins in fall 2026 and continues until a successful candidate is identified. The application deadline is November 19, 2026. Employment offers are contingent on credential verification and satisfactory completion of a criminal background check. The University expects employees to perform all work in Ohio.
