About The Position
The Department of Economics at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2027, preferably with a specialization in Industrial Organization, Environmental Economics, Energy, or Public Economics. Economics at James Madison University is a strong and successful department with 21 full-time faculty. JMU economics graduates have distinguished themselves in a variety of careers. In addition to its major programs, the economics department supports the College of Business and programs across campus with top-quality instruction. The Department of Economics resides in the College of Business. The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. The faculty are teacher-scholars who are collaborative and supportive colleagues. The College has approximately 4,000 students in its AACSB programs and is highly regarded across the JMU campus community.
Requirements
- Ph.D. Strong ABD candidates will be considered under the condition that the candidate’s final dissertation defense must be successful no later than August 1, 2027.
- Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.
- Productive agenda for scholarly research.
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
Nice To Haves
- Specialization in Industrial Organization, Environmental Economics, Energy, or Public Economics.
Responsibilities
- The typical teaching load is 3-3 with normally two preparations per semester and will typically include introductory economics.
- Willingness to teach natural resources economics is desirable.
