About The Position

The Department of Economics at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions in Economics with a focus on empirical research. We are particularly interested in candidates conducting research using machine learning methods. CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of this position will include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in data analytics, as well as teaching core graduate and undergraduate courses in the candidate’s areas of specialty. Faculty responsibilities also include contributing to the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing scholarship commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

Requirements

  • A completed Ph.D. degree in Economics at the start of the appointment.
  • Expertise in applying modern econometrics and machine learning techniques to applied economic questions.
  • Potential to publish academic research in leading journals.
  • A commitment to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and an interest in teaching a diverse student body, including first-generation college students.

  • Candidates who have developed and taught courses in data analytics/machine learning and who use these methods extensively in their research.
