About The Position

The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is seeking applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is full-time or part-time with a twelve-month appointment and is without tenure due to funding. The successful candidate will have a primary clinical appointment as a clinical psychologist at the UWMC-Center for Pain Relief, focusing on outpatient assessment and psychotherapy for patients with chronic pain and co-existing mental health conditions. The role involves developing treatment plans, consulting with pain physicians and advanced practice providers, and utilizing evidence-based psychotherapies. There is potential for involvement in clinical service development and future expansion of care models.

Requirements

  • PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in psychology.
  • Completion of internship in an APA-approved clinical psychology graduate school program.
  • Eligibility for psychology licensure in the state of Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outpatient assessment, including spinal cord stimulator evaluations and bio-psycho-social intake evaluations.
  • Provide psychotherapy as part of the UWMC-Center for Pain Relief.
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Provide consultation with pain physicians and advanced practice providers for patients with depression, anxiety disorder, and PTSD, with co-existing pain diagnoses.
  • Utilize evidence-based psychotherapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness/meditation, motivational interviewing (MI), and hypnosis for chronic pain and other comorbid concerns.
  • Engage in teaching, research, and service as a University of Washington faculty member.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical services.
