About The Position

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking talented applicants qualified for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The appointment is expected to begin September 1, 2027. The Department is committed to building a vibrant and inclusive academic community. The position is defined broadly in remote sensing systems and technologies across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, with specific areas of interest including microwave and optical, active and passive instruments or systems and their application to the remote sensing of land, water, or the atmosphere. Payloads and instrument concepts for small satellites or other resource-constrained platforms such as UAVs are of particular interest. The department encourages scholars working across disciplines and welcomes candidates who value collegiality, collaboration, achievement, and integrity, and who have a commitment to mentor under-represented demographics within engineering. They also welcome candidates with non-traditional career paths, those who have paused careers for family or other reasons, or who spent time outside of academia.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or anticipate such a degree by September 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an externally-funded research program in environmental remote sensing.
  • Develop and maintain an internationally recognized scholarly presence.
  • Contribute to teaching existing graduate and undergraduate courses in Electrical & Computer Engineering (e.g., electronics, signal processing, or electromagnetics).
  • Be encouraged to develop creative new curricula in the area of their expertise.
  • Contribute meaningful service to their department, College, University and externally within their field through participation in committees, faculty governance, and activities that support the academic community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The University expects to pay within an approximate range between $79,350 and $137,344 for this position.
  • Engineering TT starting salaries are typically well above the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement.
