About The Position

The Special Education & Counseling Department in the College of Education at Cal State LA is seeking to fill two full-time, academic year Assistant Professor tenure track positions in the School-Based Family Counseling Program. The appointment begins Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession, and community. These responsibilities generally include advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions. Principal duties include teaching introductory and advanced courses in Counseling, including providing supervision of first-year graduate students in conjoint family therapy in a community clinic setting, supervising practicum/fieldwork, and providing student advisement. Requirements

  • Doctorate in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience in working in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural environment, including public schools.
  • Demonstrated potential or record of effective teaching using a variety of methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing supervision of counselors in clinical settings such as public schools or agencies.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of publications in scholarly journals or planned agenda for research, scholarship, or creative activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced training and experience in conjoint family therapy and is a Licensed Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW and/or LPCC.
  • Professional identity as a family counselor, affiliation with professional organization in marriage family therapy.
  • Holds a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling and Advanced Authorization in Child Welfare and Attendance.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing supervision of first-year graduate students in conjoint family therapy in a community clinic setting.
  • Ability to teach in three or more of the following areas: Family Counseling Laboratory, Basic Counseling & Interviewing Skills; Individual Counseling Strategies; Group Counseling; Multicultural Counseling, Leadership in Pupil Personnel Services, Family Counseling with Children; Human Sexuality; Human Development.
  • Willingness to teach 18 Saturday mornings per academic year (the clinic provides training to students and services to families on Saturdays).

Benefits

  • Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience (anticipated hiring range: $91,000 - $97,224 annually).
