About The Position

The Department of Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health (OESH) in the College of Business and Economics (CoBE) at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a dedicated educator, scholar, and colleague to join our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental/Occupational Safety & Health, beginning August 2027. This position carries a 24-credit annual teaching load with an emphasis on high-impact instructional practices, student success, research, and professional service. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face and online undergraduate courses for the Occupational Safety B.S. and graduate courses for the M.S. in Environmental Safety & Health (online) and will pursue an active research agenda that complements existing faculty expertise. Areas of research interest may include one or more of the following: Construction safety and health, Risk management and loss control, ISO auditing/management systems and international safety and health, Ergonomics and human factors engineering, Environmental management. The approved standards for promotion and tenure at the time of initial contract are the standards that will be used for promotion and tenure. If there are revisions to department or college standards, a faculty member can request (in writing to the department chair) to have the revised standards applied.

Requirements

Doctoral degree (Ph.D., ScD, EdD, or equivalent) in environmental safety and health or a closely related field, including but not limited to: Environmental Health, Engineering, Public Health, Public Policy, or Risk Management and Loss Control, by the time of appointment.
ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2027; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2028, in advance of their first scheduled review.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching, experience with Canvas, and a record of scholarly achievement.
Professional experience in OESH and certification are desirable (e.g., CSP, CIH, REHS, CPE, ARM, CRM, PE, CHMM, REM).

Responsibilities

Deliver 24 credits of instruction per academic year in Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health.
Maintain at least eight office hours for students each week during the academic year.
Use the systems, “Navigate” and “Stellic” for all advising/mentoring notes.
Maintain professional and timely responsiveness to student, colleague, and administrator inquiries via Navigate, Canvas, email, and telephone, generally within 24–48 business hours while on contract.
Ensure the punctual submission of course syllabi at the start of each term, ensuring they meet all University and system-wide requirements.
Contribute to curriculum development and review, including efforts supporting ABET-ANSAC accreditation and BCSP Qualified Academic Program (QAP) status.
Select and develop instructional materials that are Title II (ADA) compliant.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
Curriculum development and review for improvement and re-accreditation.
Internship supervision.
Maintain an active scholarly agenda that contributes to the field of environmental and occupational safety and health, including applying for grants and collaborating with other faculty or members of the OESH community.
Disseminate research through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or professional exhibitions per department and college standards.
Seek opportunities to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research initiatives and other scholarly and creative activities.
Participate in departmental, college, and university-level meetings and committee work.
Participate in professional and public service, and in community organizations relevant to the candidate's expertise and interests.
Contribute to program assessment and development.
Engage in professional outreach and service that aligns with the University Mission Statement and the Wisconsin Idea.
Participate in at least one graduation ceremony each academic year.
Be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
