About The Position

The Department of Aviation and Technology at San José State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Computer Network System Management (CNSM) Concentration. This role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as software quality management, mobile technology, edge computing, and general networking topics including network administration, IoT, cloud computing, and database management. The position also requires conducting sponsored research and projects with students. Requirements

  • A Doctorate degree in an engineering or technology related field such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical, electronics, computer networking, telecommunications, software, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses primarily related to software quality management, mobile technology, edge computing, and courses in the General Networks area, including introduction to networks, network administration, Internet of things, cloud computing, and database management.
  • Carry out sponsored research and projects involving students.
  • Develop all necessary course materials.
  • Teach assigned classes in accordance with standard SJSU practices.
  • Grade course assignments, examinations, and project reports.
  • Enforce academic policies in assigned courses, such as academic integrity violations and reporting these to the appropriate authorities.
  • Coordinate the activities of teaching assistants/graders who may have been assigned to the courses.
  • Post final grades in a timely manner at the end of the semester.
  • Contribute to the regular assessment and continuous improvement of teaching effectiveness at both course and program levels.
  • Maintain a student-centric approach at all times, contributing to the development of students as productive, responsible, and caring citizens of the world.
  • Maintain an active research lab that provides research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Comply with requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Complete Clery Act training and immediately report Clery incidents to the institution if designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  • Complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety).
  • Comply with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness as recommended or required by the President.
