About The Position

The Department of Health and Society (DHS) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Health Policy. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. We are also a part of new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH), a collaborative network that is working to train the next generation of health-care professionals in the eastern Greater Toronto Area.

Requirements

Earned a PhD degree in Health Services Research, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social and Behavioural Health Sciences or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter.
Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in both large lecture-style and smaller seminar settings.
Teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, assessment, curriculum development, TA management and mentorship, and development of online instructional material/lectures.
Demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry/practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
Ability to work within an interdisciplinary department that values collaboration across discipline, rank, and method.
Demonstrated commitment to increasing access to post-secondary education experiences.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the capacity to teach a wide range of courses in the area of health policy as it pertains to theory and practice, contemporary themes and analytics; methodologies associated with the study of health-related matters; practicalities of the Canadian health care system particularly as it relates to aging and aging care delivery, international comparisons, and political systems; and ethical considerations.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
Submission of a 1- to 2-page statement of contributions to equity and diversity.

Teaching in courses such as Health Policy and Systems, Exploring Health and Society: Theories, Perspectives, and Patterns; Navigating Health and Society: Research, Practice, and Policy; Politics of Canadian Health Policy; Comparative Health Systems; Public Health; and Health and Aging will be considered relevant to this position.
