Assistant Professor, Psychiatric-Mental Health, School of Nursing
About The Position
San Francisco State University, School of Nursing offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Psychiatric-Mental Health beginning August 2027. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests include but are not limited to psychiatric and behavioral health disparities; social determinants of health and their impact on mental health outcomes; culturally responsive mental health care; and trauma-informed care. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service -- to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in nursing or a related field (Ed.D., DNP). Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.
- Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.
- Eligible for or have an active, unencunbered RN license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- A strong background in psychiatric-mental health work.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring nursing students, particularly from minoritized and underserved communities.
- Commitment to equity in teaching and the promotion of diversity.
- Strong communication, writing, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively, and show evidence of interpersonal skills and collegiality.
- An active record of and demonstrate excellence in scholarship related to psychiatric-mental health nursing.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to service or research activities that engage underrepresented communities within the discipline.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural or interprofessional communication and collaboration.
