About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is seeking a full-time Intensive Care Faculty member for its dynamic Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This academic health center position focuses on providing standardized, streamlined, high-quality medical and surgical intensive care. The faculty member will collaborate with the PICU Medical Director, intensivists, and surgeons in caring for critically ill patients. Key objectives include maintaining and improving quality and operations, ensuring consistency of care, enhancing patient satisfaction, and driving efficiencies such as reducing length of stay and ICU-related co-morbidities. The role involves clinical duties, including participation in the MSICU service with commensurate night call, standing huddles, and regular meetings with PICU team members. The position also includes attending various conferences such as PICU Case Conference, Morbidity and Mortality, QI and Operations, and ECMO Morbidity and Mortality, as well as participating in monthly simulations. The faculty member will also contribute to the education of future health professionals and engage in research and community outreach, aligning with OHSU's missions.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and support the provision of standardized, streamlined, high-quality medical and surgical intensive care.
  • Actively participate in initiatives empowering physician and nursing care through education and sub specialization.
  • Collaborate with a PICU Medical Director, intensivists, and surgeons in caring for medical and surgical critically ill patients.
  • Maintain and improve Quality and Operations.
  • Ensure consistency of care.
  • Enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Drive efficiencies including reduction of length of stay, PICU readmissions, and decreasing ICU-related co-morbidities.
  • Participate in the MSICU service 12-14 weeks per year with night call commensurate with clinical FTE.
  • Attend weekly PICU Case Conference.
  • Attend monthly PICU Morbidity and Mortality Conference.
  • Attend monthly PICU QI and Operations Conference.
  • Attend quarterly and ad hoc ECMO Morbidity and Mortality conference.
  • Participate in monthly simulations.
  • Educate tomorrow’s health professionals, scientists, engineers and managers.
  • Explore new basic, clinical and applied research frontiers.
  • Translate discoveries into applications in the health and commercial sectors.
  • Lead and advocate for programs that improve health for all Oregonians.
  • Extend OHSU’s education, research and healthcare missions through community service, outreach and partnerships.
  • Achieve successful completion of the Doernbecher Quality goals.
