About The Position

All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an Allied Health or related field, certified as a Medical Assistant.
  • Two (2) years college teaching experience (48+ credits) with two (2) years professional work experience in Allied Health or related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in an Allied Health or related field.
  • Experience teaching Medical Terminology, Medical Assisting, Medical Insurance and Billing or Principles of Pharmacy.
  • Experience with curriculum development, program assessment and evaluation.
  • Experience using technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standards
  • Evaluating and assessing student learning outcomes
  • Providing student support, mentoring, and academic advising
  • Developing curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materials
  • Assisting with program reviews and accreditation-related activities
  • Planning and executing program-related events
  • Attending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field
  • Recruit, advise, and retain students in designated program areas
  • Select appropriate part-time instructors
  • Schedule program courses
  • Hire and evaluate faculty
  • Establish and cultivate partnerships with local organizations and employers
  • Arrange and supervise student internships
  • Assess, evaluate, and continuously improve the program
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned to a Program Coordinator, in accordance with contract hours and the collective bargaining agreement
  • Utilize release time, as specified in the collective bargaining agreement, to perform required administrative functions
  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends
