About The Position

The position is a full-time, non-tenure track fiscal year (12 month) appointment. The University offers an excellent benefits package, and the state of Tennessee has no state income tax. Memphis and the surrounding areas maintain a very low cost of living relative to most parts of the country. The anticipated start date of employment is August 3, 2026. The College of Health Sciences ( https://www.memphis.edu/healthsciences/ ) offers the B.S. degree in Health Studies with concentrations in Health Sciences; Dietetics; Exercise, Sport & Movement Sciences; and Healthcare Leadership; as well as the B.S.Ed. degree in Physical Education Teacher Education. The college also offers the M.S. degree in Health Studies with concentrations in Exercise Nutrition; Exercise, Sport & Movement Sciences; Lifestyle Medicine; and Physical Education Teacher Education. A second M.S. degree is offered in Nutrition with concentrations in Clinical Nutrition; Environmental Nutrition; and Nutrition Science. The college also offers two PhD programs and the Doctor of Physical Therapy. There are approximately 1600 undergraduate and graduate majors within CHS. The University of Memphis is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research 1 Institution, one of only three in the state of TN. It has a diverse population of approximately 20,000 students, including approximately 4,000 graduate students.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an earned master’s degree in nursing or other related healthcare field from an accredited institution.
  • Current unencucumbered healthcare license or certification required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in ambulatory care, physician practice or related healthcare setting is required.
  • The ability to teach face-to-face and online courses is required.
  • Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to begin and continue working in the United States at the time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered nurse (RN) licensure or Licensed practical nurse (LPN) licensure.
  • Prior teaching, training, precepting or clinical instruction experience.
  • Experience teaching in postsecondary, continuing education or workforce development setting.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing online instruction within the medical assisting continuing education program.
  • Periodic in-person instruction.
  • Development and maintenance of course materials, syllabi, assessments, and instructional resources.
  • Clinical coordination and student support.
  • Program development and service to the program and university.
  • Assisting with coordination and clinical externship placement and oversight.
  • Monitoring student compliance.
  • Supporting student retention, engagement and professional development.
  • Participation in curriculum review, revision and quality improvement activities.
  • Programmatic and institution reporting.
  • Attendance at recruitment, admissions, orientation and program outreach activities.
  • Attendance at faculty meetings.
