About The Position

The College of Human Sciences & Education, School of Kinesiology is seeking an Assistant Professor of Research. The primary responsibilities include operating equipment to support faculty research in metabolic and bioenergetic changes, and mitochondrial function. The new faculty member will also be expected to develop their own project line to contribute to research expenditures in the School of Kinesiology. Additionally, the Assistant Professor of Research will mentor and train students, post-docs, and faculty in the measurements used to determine metabolic changes.

Requirements

  • PhD in Kinesiology or related field.
  • Experience in research and/or academic setting.
  • Evidence of substantial experience in metabolic profiling.
  • Strong academic and research credentials directly related to carry out research related in the area of physiology.
  • Must pass a satisfactory background check.
  • Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Kinesiology or related field.
  • Two or more years of research experience in an academic setting.
  • Specific interest in aging and the association between exercise and prevention of age- and obesity-related cardiometabolic diseases (e.g., type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and sarcopenia); thus, supplemental research interest to current research foci of faculty in the division of Exercise Physiology.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment to support faculty who require measurement of metabolic and bioenergic changes, and mitochondrial function.
  • Start his/her own project line thus contributing to an expansion of research expenditures in the School of Kinesiology.
  • Mentor and train students, post-docs, and faculty in the measurements used to determine metabolic changes.
  • As PI/CO-PI on funded grants, perform all duties described in these projects, including but not limited to preparing progress and final reports, conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, attending grant related meetings, preparing publications, reports, and presentations to enhance the School’s local and national recognition.
  • Mentor other members of the grant team, including other School of Kinesiology staff, graduate and/or undergraduate students.
  • Prepare materials & proposals for submission to granting agencies and foundations for external funding to advance the School of Kinesiology capacity and levels of impact within the University, the Louisiana community, and the nation.
  • Disseminate knowledge through reports, articles, white papers and presentations at the local, state and national symposia and/or conferences, and assist the School of Kinesiology to build capacity to develop grants.
