About The Position

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology at the University of Wyoming is seeking to fill a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice position in Criminal Justice, beginning in Fall 2027. This is a Fixed-Term Rolling Contract (FTRC) position with a primary focus on teaching and internship coordination. The FTRC, after a probationary period, offers a three-year rolling contract renewed annually based on performance. In addition to a 9-month contract, this role includes a separate appointment for managing internships during the summer semester, which may include additional pay.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field, AND a minimum of 5 years of non-academic work experience in criminal justice or related field.
• OR PhD degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Juris Doctorate (JD), or a related field, AND a minimum of 3 years of non-academic work experience in criminal justice or related field.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in Criminal Justice (or related field) at the college and/or university level (Experience as a teaching assistant at the college or university level meets this qualification).
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Sponsorship for H-1B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

• Experience coordinating, developing, or assisting with student internships.
• Ability to teach in areas of need within our curriculum related to criminal justice systems to include corrections, policing, comparative criminal justice, ethics, or terrorism.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level using applied, practice-based approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of our undergraduate program with traditional classroom instruction and online education.
• Ability to develop partnerships with agencies/organizations for internships, field experiences, and collaborative projects.

Responsibilities

• Teach 5 courses per academic year.
• Oversee the department’s internship program (one section per semester).
• Coordinate and manage the undergraduate internship program as the instructor of record for the internship course in Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
• Assist students in Criminal Justice/Criminology and Sociology programs with obtaining internships.
• Develop new internship opportunities.
• Supervise students and assess internships.
• Engage in professional development, advising, and service activities.
