About The Position

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Poultry Science/Poultry Production. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. JOB SUMMARY The College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology (CAFST) seeks an energetic and student-focused faculty member with expertise in Poultry Science/Poultry Production for a 12-month, Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust independent research program in poultry science and poultry production including collaboration with poultry producers and Cooperative Extension agents at FVSU. As part of CAFST's commitment to developing and strengthening poultry science programs, the university has invested in new teaching and research infrastructure to support program development. The successful candidate will also have access to start-up funds contingent upon submission of a competitive research plan.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Poultry Science/Animal Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in poultry production systems.
  • Knowledge of emerging research priorities relevant to Georgia agriculture and the poultry industry.
  • Evidence of innovative instructional pedagogy including familiarity with AI-assisted education and research technologies.
  • Ability to create inclusive, effective learning environments that support student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in teaching, research and extension settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure external research funding.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check

Nice To Haves

  • A working understanding of poultry management is expected, and productive interaction with partners in allied poultry industries is preferred.
  • Post-doctoral or other experiences beyond the Ph.D. is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare, and supervise student laboratory and experiential learning activities.
  • Develop course objectives, assignments, and effective methods for assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and sustain a robust competitive research program in poultry science/poultry production.
  • Train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with poultry industry partners and institutions within the University System of Georgia that maintain poultry programs.
  • Secure extramural funding through competitive grants and collaborative partnerships.
  • Provide service to professional organizations, the college, university and broader community
  • Collaborate with our Cooperative Extension service to support poultry producers in Middle Georgia
  • Position may involve instructional duties.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
