About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, is seeking an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Reservoir Engineering) to begin Fall 2027. TAMIU is a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in Laredo, Texas, dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, community engagement, and public service, with a focus on student success and research excellence. This is a tenure-track, nine-month position with a reduced teaching load to support research development. The primary responsibilities include establishing an independent, externally funded research program in reservoir engineering, teaching reservoir engineering courses within the BS in Petroleum Engineering program, and mentoring student research and senior design projects. Additional duties involve teaching other Petroleum Engineering and engineering courses, supporting recruitment, accreditation, and School service, and collaborating with academic, industry, and government partners. This role requires regular on-campus presence. The School of Engineering is expanding its faculty capacity to meet significant enrollment growth in its ABET-accredited programs.

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment).
  • Demonstrate expertise in reservoir engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof.
  • Be able to teach courses in reservoir engineering.
  • Mentor student research.
  • Establish an independent research program in reservoir engineering.
  • Required expertise in reservoir engineering includes demonstrated strength in one or more of the following: reservoir characterization and simulation; enhanced oil recovery; unconventional or fractured reservoirs; history matching and uncertainty quantification; coupled flow-geomechanics; CO2-EOR and geologic carbon storage; geothermal reservoir engineering; or subsurface gas or hydrogen storage.
