About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence to join the School of Engineering starting Fall 2027. This tenure-track position involves establishing an independent research program at the intersection of AI and petroleum engineering, designing and teaching AI-related petroleum engineering courses, and mentoring student research. The role also includes contributing to the MS in Systems Engineering, teaching other engineering courses as needed, supporting school initiatives like recruitment and curriculum development, and collaborating with external partners. This position is part of a strategic expansion within the School of Engineering to hire ten new faculty members.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date (applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment).
• Demonstrated expertise at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof.
• Ability to design and teach AI-related petroleum engineering coursework.
• Ability to mentor student research.
• Ability to establish an independent research program in this area.

Responsibilities

• Establishing an independent, externally funded research program at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering.
• Designing and teaching AI-related petroleum engineering coursework.

• Contributing to the AI-themed MS in Systems Engineering.
• Teaching Petroleum Engineering and engineering courses as needed.
• Supporting recruitment, accreditation, curriculum development, and School service.
• Collaborating with academic, industry, and government partners on interdisciplinary research.
