About The Position

The School of Music at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in musicology with an appointment to begin Fall 2027. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in musicology.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness (for example, via course syllabi, student and peer evaluations, and other evidence).
  • Successful college- or university-level music history teaching experience as instructor of record.
  • Peer-reviewed publication history indicative of strong potential for tenure and promotion.
  • Experience in and commitment to teaching and/or mentoring members of historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
  • College- or university-level teaching experience, including undergraduate music major music history survey courses.
  • Conversant with emerging musicological research and teaching methods.
  • Ability to sustain and develop music history courses.
  • Ability to expand general education offerings.
  • Experience with diverse traditions and communities.
  • Interested in and/or experienced with teaching large general education music courses in person and in online instruction.
  • Research area will complement our faculty’s existing strengths.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate music major music history survey courses, graduate musicology seminars, general education music history classes, and other academic music classes as assigned and based on the candidate’s qualifications.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate musicology theses.
  • Share in departmental responsibilities, including student advisement and service on committees.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, peer-reviewed research, and professional and university service, all of which are required to earn tenure and promotion.
