The Music Theory and Musicology Area in the School of Music at The Ohio State University is searching for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in musicology and/or ethnomusicology. Areas and topics of specialization are open, but the successful candidate will have a scholarship and teaching profile that complements and expands existing faculty expertise in our Area, which includes faculty members in both musicology and music theory. We are especially interested in candidates whose work advances fine-grained analysis of music and sound within communities of practice. The Music Theory and Musicology Area prides itself on constructive collaboration across the disciplines of musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory. The successful candidate should evidence interest in and engagement with music studies, broadly defined, in terms of scholarly output, curriculum development, public outreach, and student recruitment. Finally, the candidate will teach within and further develop musicology’s core undergraduate and graduate curricula. Undergraduate core courses include European art music traditions, African American musical traditions, musical citizenship (the intersection of music, politics, and civics globally), and global music histories. Graduate courses include disciplinary surveys (in “musicology” and “ethnomusicology”), methodological training (historical and ethnographic), and specialized seminars.
