About The Position

The Frances and Laurence Weinstein Chair in Modern European Jewish History is an Assistant Professor position focusing on Modern European Jewish History (1750–present), with an open geographic field and chronological focus. The successful candidate will teach courses in modern European Jewish history and at least one course per year on the Holocaust. An endowment will provide an annual fund to support public-facing programs related to the Holocaust. The position is within the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies, a multidisciplinary undergraduate program offering a major and certificate (minor) in Jewish Studies. The Center collaborates with numerous departments and programs across the UW–Madison campus. The position resides in the College of Letters & Science, which values excellent teaching, classroom innovation, and shared governance. The Weinstein Chair will advance the College's educational mission by valuing student-centered teaching and undergraduate mentoring, contributing to an environment that fosters engagement and belonging for faculty, staff, students, and the broader community. Tenure will reside in the Center for Jewish Studies.

Requirements

Ph.D. in history required at time of appointment.
Proficient in the language(s) of their region of study.
Demonstrate the ability to foster a teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental, and a research environment where all can thrive.

Materials should showcase the applicant’s ability to purposefully plan their teaching practices, evidenced through goals, action plans, reflection, and related documentation.
