About The Position

Wofford College’s History Department is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern Asian History to begin fall 2027. Wofford's faculty teach a 3-1-3 load, with the '1' indicating the January 'Interim' term for travel or specialized teaching. Faculty are expected to advise students, participate in departmental activities, and contribute to college-wide service. Wofford faculty are teacher-scholars focused on undergraduate teaching and advising within a liberal arts framework.

Requirements

  • PhD in History or Asian Studies by the beginning of the appointment.
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
  • A letter of application addressing preparedness for Wofford's History department needs, reasons for wanting to teach at a small liberal arts college, and contributions to Wofford's mission and core values.
  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A teaching portfolio including sample syllabi, a statement on teaching philosophy, and evidence of effective teaching (if available).

Responsibilities

  • Teach upper-division courses on modern Asian history (19th and 20th centuries).
  • Teach a survey of Modern East Asia history.
  • Teach another broad survey class.
  • Regularly teach a LIBA seminar aimed at first-year students.
  • Advise students on a regular basis.
  • Be present for regular departmental activities.
  • Help with college-wide service work.
