About The Position

Stetson University seeks an Assistant Professor of Medieval History. The specific field of expertise is open, but candidates specializing in Late Roman/Early Medieval History and possessing the ability to teach Ancient Greek, Roman, and/or Near Eastern History are particularly encouraged to apply. Other areas of interest include the History of Science/Medicine/Technology, Public History, and Military History. This is a full-time, tenure-track position commencing in August 2027.

Requirements

Ph.D. in History or a related field by August 2027.
Active scholarly agenda.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates in both general and specialized subfields of history.
Ability to highlight skills and experiences demonstrating a commitment to promoting inclusive academic environments and engaging across differences.

Nice To Haves

Specialization in Late Roman/Early Medieval History.
Ability to teach Ancient Greek, Roman, and/or Near Eastern History.
Interest in the History of Science/Medicine/Technology.

Responsibilities

Teach five regular courses annually.
Lead one student-centered immersive experience per academic year, equivalent to one course in time commitment, as part of the University’s Hatter Ready initiative.
Maintain an active scholarly agenda.
Demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduates in both general and specialized subfields of history.
