About The Position

The Department of History at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), nine-month, tenure-accruing appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in European History, open chronology, beginning August 16, 2027. We invite applications from scholars of European history across all periods, including medieval, early modern, and modern, and from a broad range of methodological perspectives. Preference will be given to candidates whose research situates Europe within interregional, transregional, Mediterranean, and global contexts, complementing the department’s existing strengths in Atlantic history and the histories of the British and Spanish empires. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, European empires (from the Middle Ages to the present); colonialism; migration and displacement; law and society; the circulation of ideas and cultural practices. The appointee will contribute to the History Department’s intellectual growth and emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative research.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in History or a closely related field by August 15, 2027.
  • Demonstrated potential of excellence in scholarly research and publication in the field of United States Legal History.
  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Ability to contribute to graduate education through mentoring, advising and service activities.
