The Assistant Professor of Medical Physics is expected to use their knowledge of physics to improve medical equipment and technology in order to help diagnose and treat radiation patients. They should be familiar with all radiation techniques and provide strong mentoring and support for junior scientists (technicians, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, etc.). A medical physicist may work in the fields of radiotherapy, nuclear technology or medical imaging. Clinical radiotherapy physicists consult with physicians and care for patients in our hospitals and satellite facilities. They are responsible for the acceptance testing, commissioning and quality assurance of diagnostic and treatment machines. Performs treatment planning and dosimetry verification and supervises patient treatments using therapeutic equipment. Ensure optimal equipment performance and protect patients and other medical personnel from radiation hazards. Medical physicists with an academic appointment also conduct medical physics education to other medical personnel and carry out research aimed to improve existing medical technology and applications. They help to resolve issues dealing with radiation therapy and diagnostic radiology.
