About The Position

The Department of Social Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Early World History and Coordinator of the History Education Program. The successful candidate will serve as both an Early World History professor and the Program Coordinator for the nationally accredited History Education program. This role includes supervising student teaching field experiences, teaching the required Methods course for Social Studies secondary education, and maintaining documentation and data for program accreditation. The candidate will also advise History Education majors, ensuring they meet field experience requirements. Additionally, the position involves teaching General Education courses (Early World History, World Cultural Geography) both online and in-person, as well as upper-division courses in their area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Candidates must include a statement on teaching philosophy.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in History preferred.
  • Familiarity with InTASC Core Teaching Standards, CAEP accreditation standards, and C3 Framework is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience at the secondary and collegiate level is preferred.
  • Technological competence and experience in the LMS Canvas is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Colleague system.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Early World History professor and Program Coordinator for the History Education program.
  • Supervise student teaching field experiences.
  • Teach the required Methods course for Social Studies secondary education.
  • Maintain documentation and data for program accreditation.
  • Advise History Education majors on field experience requirements.
  • Teach General Education courses (Early World History, World Cultural Geography) online and in-person.
  • Teach upper-division courses in their area of expertise.
  • Complete systematic program reviews to ensure content alignment with CAEP and national/state standards.
  • Evaluate assessments for alignment with teacher competencies and standards.
  • Review and adjust processes for assessment redevelopment.
  • Track passing rates on subject-area tests to analyze potential obstacles to teacher certification.
  • Serve on the Teacher Education Council (TEC) and coordinate History Education program accreditation processes.
  • Attend TEC meetings.
  • Attend NCSS annual training sessions.
  • Oversee the implementation of SPA standard changes to the History Education program.
  • Maintain weekly office hours appropriate to course load.
  • Participate in early grade alert systems and assess student outcomes.
  • Advise students and support student activities.
  • Engage in continuing professional development.
  • Complete safety and job-related training as required.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
