About The Position

The Department of Human and Environmental Health and Policy in the College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University is seeking an assistant professor to teach in its environmental studies and conservation science and management programs, including the B.S. in Environmental Studies, B.S. in Conservation Science and Management, and minor in Environmental Studies. Courses may include lectures, labs, and seminars covering environmental science and studies, forestry, wildlife management, and geographic information systems (GIS).

Faculty members are expected to be active scholars in their fields and participate in service to the university and the broader community. The department has a student-centered focus that includes advising and mentoring and supports the academic success of an increasingly diverse student population. An on-campus, in-person presence is expected. Shenandoah University is a private, comprehensive university located 70 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., and is committed to increasing the diversity of its university community and curriculum.

Requirements

• A doctoral degree in environmental science, environmental studies, biology/ecology, or a closely related terminal degree by the start of the Fall 2026 semester.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• Evidence of scholarly and professional activities.
• Experience teaching undergraduate courses.
• An on-campus, in-person presence.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses, which may include lectures, labs, and seminars in environmental science and studies, forestry, wildlife management, and geographic information systems (GIS).
• Advise and mentor students.
• Maintain an active scholarly presence in the field.
• Participate in service to the university and the broader community.
