About The Position

The Department of English at the University of Central Oklahoma seeks to appoint a full-time, non-tenure-track renewable Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in British literatures after 1800. The college serves over 1500 undergraduate and 190 graduate students across 8 academic departments. The English department offers multiple undergraduate and graduate degree tracks, as well as interdisciplinary minors. This position involves teaching, advising, mentoring, and evaluating students, as well as participating in departmental and university service.

Requirements

A Ph.D. in English (or a directly related adjacent field).
A commitment to high-quality teaching.

Nice To Haves

Secondary research and/or teaching experience in areas of Asian studies, contemporary world literatures, or Transatlantic Black literatures.
At least two years of experience teaching in a college or university setting.

Responsibilities

Teach four courses (twelve hours) per semester, including British Literature since 1800 and World Literature II, first-year composition, and upper-division and cross-listed undergraduate-/master’s-level courses, as well as graduate-only seminars, in areas that complement instructor expertise and departmental need.
Direct and serve on M.A. thesis committees.
Engage in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Maintain an active program of research, scholarly, and/or creative activity.
Adhere to the educational philosophy of the university.
Work in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers.
Participate in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty.
Serve on department, college, and university committees as requested.
