About The Position

Dean College is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and student-centered educator to join the English faculty within the interdisciplinary Humanities Department. This role will be integral to the English major, its Film Studies Track, and the innovative Content Creation and Influencing major. The position is a full-time, 10-month, annually renewable Assistant Professor position. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching media and film theory, as well as thematic courses in literature, film, and/or pop culture studies. Experience teaching digital storytelling is a plus. The role requires creating a classroom environment based on experiential learning and active engagement. Courses will include Composition I (ENG 111) and Composition II (ENG 112). Collaboration with Humanities faculty, first-year writing faculty, and Communications faculty is essential. Applications will be considered until the position is filled, with first consideration given to those received by December 1, 2026. The expected salary range is $69,000-$72,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • PhD in Film Studies, Media Studies, English, or related areas in the Humanities is required; Candidates with an ABD will be considered.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience is required, particularly with first-year undergraduates.
  • Commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong computer skills, the use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, the ability to access the College's online resources, and a willingness to be responsive to students via digital tools, including our digital learning management system.
  • The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching and will have the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles and at varying stages of academic readiness.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching digital storytelling would be a plus.
  • Experience with online teaching, course management systems, digital technology, and classroom media such as smart boards is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 5:5 teaching load (teaching 15 contact hours/semester); There is no faculty advising load. Students are served by a professional advising staff.
  • Coach and mentor students regarding academic and career goals including graduate school preparation.
  • Develop curriculum grounded in best practices and assess the results of program initiatives.
  • Hold office hours as required and meet with students by appointment.
  • Participate in committees as assigned, attend school and program meetings.
  • Participate in recruitment activities and student orientations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
