About The Position

The Department of English at Utah Tech University is seeking to hire a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition and a specialization in interdisciplinary writing. The position begins July 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will leverage their doctoral expertise to collaborate across disciplines, particularly in STEM, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and the Arts, for both lower-division and upper-division courses. Interest and/or expertise in emerging technologies, including AI and multimodal software, with a focus on professional development, are highly desired. The department offers various degree programs and minors, including a Master of Arts in Technical Writing and Digital Rhetoric. Utah Tech University is an open-enrollment institution, and the English department plays a crucial role in providing foundational composition courses and support for at-risk students.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition (or related field) by August 2027 from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A demonstrated record of teaching, service, and scholarship in Rhetoric and Composition, interdisciplinary writing, and emerging technologies.
  • Evidence of university-wide and professional networking.
  • Ability to analyze and employ various communication and teaching technologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
  • An eagerness to engage with faculty, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 semester hours in lower division, upper division, and graduate-level English courses, including traditional composition, corequisite composition, and developmental reading and writing.
  • Teach lower division and upper division courses in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Lead department efforts in fostering interdisciplinary relationships across campus and developing interdisciplinary curriculum for composition courses with a focus on emerging technologies.
  • Engage in scholarship relevant to the position at a level appropriate to a teaching university.
  • Assist in curriculum creation in Rhetoric and Composition.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned and attend departmental, college, and university meetings as required.
  • Work constructively, collaboratively, and collegially with faculty and staff in the department and across campus.
  • Conduct student assessment.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Mentor part-time instructors.
  • Perform service for the college and university.
  • Participate in university and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Facilitate service learning and engagement with the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
