About The Position

Warren Wilson College is seeking a broadly-trained creative writer with expertise in poetry for an Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing. This role involves a 24 credit teaching load, typically a 3-3 class load, beginning in August of 2027. The college utilizes an extended contract system where, after an initial 3-year period of annual reviews, faculty receive extended-term contracts linked to academic rank review and promotion. The ideal candidate will be strongly committed to teaching and student-engaged research within an undergraduate liberal arts environment. The Creative Writing program, housed in the Creative Arts department, offers majors and minors in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, with a curriculum that critically examines the cultural implications of craft. The program has a close relationship with the renowned Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, including opportunities for undergraduates to participate in MFA residencies and interact with a yearly Writer-in-Residence. The program fosters a lively writing community through an emphasis on literary citizenship, a reading series, and a student-produced literary journal. Faculty are expected to teach a variety of courses, including multi-genre classes, single-genre workshops, introductory and advanced poetry courses, a Literary Magazine History and Editing course, and reading courses focused on diversifying students' exposure to contemporary literature. Opportunities also exist to teach study-away courses, intensive "lightning term" courses, and first-year seminars.
