Warren Wilson College is seeking a broadly-trained creative writer with expertise in creative nonfiction for an Assistant Professor position. This role is part of an extended contract system, typically involving a 24 credit teaching load (3-3 classes) starting in August 2027. After an initial 3-year period, faculty receive extended-term contracts linked to rank review and promotion. The college emphasizes teaching and student-engaged research within an undergraduate liberal arts environment. The Creative Writing program, housed in the Creative Arts department, offers majors and minors in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The curriculum is research-focused and examines the cultural implications of craft. The program has a close relationship with the MFA Program for Writers, including an undergraduate course that involves MFA residencies and a yearly Writer-in-Residence from the MFA faculty. The program fosters a lively writing community through literary citizenship, a reading series, and a literary journal. Faculty teach a variety of courses, including multi-genre classes and single-genre workshops. This position will involve developing introductory and advanced creative nonfiction courses, a Literary Magazine History and Editing course (producing the literary magazine 'Peal'), and reading courses focused on diversifying students' exposure to contemporary literature. Opportunities also exist to teach study-away courses, intensive 'lightning term' courses, and first-year seminars.
