About The Position

The Department of Communication in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Oklahoma invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Organizational Communication. The department seeks an active scholar with a clearly defined research program capable of making significant theoretical contributions to the organizational communication sub-field and a demonstrated record of, or strong potential for, publication in refereed journals and/or books. Candidates should have methodological expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research methods. The department takes a social-scientific approach to Human Communication rather than rhetorical, critical, professional, or performative approaches. The successful candidate will teach the department’s required undergraduate course sequence, upper-level and graduate courses in their area of interest, and courses in organizational communication, small group communication, and related classes. Normal duties include a 2-2 teaching load each academic year, mentoring graduate students, and providing service to the department, university, and discipline. Interdisciplinary interests that may support collaboration across University departments and centers are desirable, particularly where they may lead to external funding. Potential collaborators include Industrial/Organizational Psychology, the Price College of Business, Engineering Leadership, Women’s and Gender Studies, Sociology, Political Science, and other relevant disciplines. Collaboration opportunities may also extend to the Harold Hamm Health Campus in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. The Department of Communication has 14 tenure-track/tenured faculty and 2 research-track faculty. It offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees to approximately 350 undergraduate and 45 graduate students on the Norman campus, and supports an online master’s degree in organizational leadership with approximately 150 students. The department is part of the Division of Social Sciences within the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. The University of Oklahoma is a flagship research university with growing research activity. The position is based in Norman, Oklahoma, a city of approximately 131,000 residents located less than 20 miles from Oklahoma City and a large airport. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Communication or a related field by the appointment date in August 2027. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
