About The Position

The UTMB Department of Family Medicine, established in 1971, provides medical care to Galveston County residents through three clinics and an inpatient service. The department offers programs in medical student education, residency, faculty development, and research. This position is 90% clinical and 10% education, focusing on patient care primarily at Galveston Island locations. The role involves direct patient care, teaching and supervision of Family Medicine residents, and potential on-call responsibilities including evenings and weekends. The physician may also precept medical students and cover other clinical services as needed, practicing within a patient-centered medical home model. The primary practice location will be the Island West Clinic, with rotations to Island West (IE) or Dickinson Family Medicine Clinics as needed.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • A strong commitment to research, patient care, medical student, and resident education.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Provide teaching and supervision of Family Medicine residents.
  • Share on-call responsibilities, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Precept medical students.
  • Cover other clinical services as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive health care with enhanced access for patients within a patient-centered medical home clinical model.
  • Practice primarily at the Island West Clinic but will also rotate through the Island West (IE) or Dickinson Family Medicine Clinics as departmental need arises.
