About The Position

The physician in the clinical track is responsible for providing direct inpatient and outpatient care to GI patients at UHealth Locations and Jackson Memorial Hospital. He/she will provide obesity evaluation, medical therapy, endobariatric outpatient clinical and endoscopic services (at least 8 half days a week), as well as rounding/teaching on inpatients at UHealth Towers, and Jackson Memorial Hospital. The physician must be trained in the assessment of obesity and obesity related complications, the medical management of obesity, and endoscopic interventions to address weight management and metabolic disease (ie, endobariatrics). Providers should be knowledgeable in regard to measures of obesity and obesity related complications, the role for medical, social, and lifestyle management as well as physical interventions to address weight loss. The provider should have training in the psychologic and nutritional components of bariatric medicine, and be willing to care for Gastroenterology/Hepatology patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Physician will do weekly, holiday, and weekend call proportionate to other GI providers. Outline of additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: Establish and perform comprehensive physiologic assessment of obesity and obesity related disease such as BMI, body scan / body composition, elastography, and fibroscan. Educate patients on lifestyle changes, nutritional needs, and long‑term diet focused weight management strategies. Prescribe, monitor, and manage anti‑obesity medication therapy. Evaluate patients for suitability for endoscopic vs. surgical interventions, considering comorbidities, psychosocial factors. Manage obesity using endoscopic bariatric metabolic therapies (EBMTs) such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), transoral outlet reduction, sleeve‑in‑sleeve revision, and intragastric balloon. Perform and interpret endoscopic procedures with expertise in sedation, airway management, and surgical anatomy relevant to bariatric care. Coordinate multidisciplinary care with obesity medicine physicians, dietitians, psychologists, and surgical teams to address nutritional, psychological, and lifestyle aspects of bariatric care, Care for patients longitudinally across the time continuum of obesity management. Maintain medical records and ensure compliance with privacy regulations. Stay current on emerging endoscopic devices, obesity pathophysiology, and treatment guidelines. Maintain outpatient clinical practice at Uhealth locations, UHealth Towers, and Satellite locations as assigned. Rotate on night, holiday, and weekend call proportionate to other faculty. Rotate proportionate to other faculty on Gastroenterology inpatient and JMH teaching services.

Requirements

  • MD/DO Degree and ACGME US internal medicine internship and residency.
  • Completion of Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Medicine Fellowship
  • Completed 3-year ACGME US gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship.
  • Provide case logs for core and non-core endoscopic procedures (2 years).
  • Valid American Board of Obesity Medicine Certification (ABOM)
  • Valid American Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (or board eligible).
  • Valid unrestricted Florida Medical License or eligible to apply (must have license prior to credentialing).
  • Valid DEA licensure
  • Permanent residency, or ability to ability to secure proper Visa to work in the United States.
  • Completion of US ACGME 3-year gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship.
  • Obesity Certification
  • Must maintain CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements.
  • Must have excellent clinical knowledge and experience to provide safe and quality care to patients and meet institutional standards of care.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification required.
