About The Position

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Psychology, with particular expertise in Child, Family, or Couples Therapy. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and is known for its learn-by-doing approach and Teacher Scholar Model. The university is situated on a 1,400-acre campus and is committed to an inclusive, experiential learning education that values diverse perspectives. The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) fosters intellectual development, ethical reasoning, and creative thinking. The Department of Psychology has 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty and approximately 1100 students, offering a BA in Psychology and an MS in Psychology for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists. The department's student population is more diverse than the general campus population.

Requirements

  • A completed initial application submitted in full by the due date.
  • PhD in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or a closely related field by time of appointment.
  • CA licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist, MFT, or LPCC.
  • Graduate level coursework or research qualifying you to teach undergraduate courses related to clinical/counseling psychology (e.g., abnormal psychology, theories of counseling, basic counseling skills), graduate-level courses in treatment of children/families/couples, and courses on research methods in psychology.
  • One class teaching as instructor of record at the undergraduate or graduate level OR as a teaching assistant with an instructional role.
  • Program of research relevant to either area of specialty or to pedagogy more broadly.
  • Program of research relevant to either clinical/counseling psychology or to pedagogy (the teaching of psychology) more broadly.
  • English language proficiency.

  • Additional and successful (as evidenced by evaluations, etc.) experience teaching as instructor of record at the undergraduate or graduate level or teaching assistant with an instructional role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach classes that serve the needs of the department and create a welcoming, engaging, and constructive experience for students.
  • Advise students on career-related and academic topics.
  • Supervise student research activities and support their academic pursuits.
  • Establish a line of research through publication and presentation of their work.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, administrative, and human resource-related tasks at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Continue to develop themselves by learning about teaching, technology, and keeping abreast of developments in their field.
  • Teach courses on a variety of topics (e.g., abnormal psychology, theories of counseling, basic counseling skills, treatment of children/families/couples, and research methods in psychology).
  • Teach in the clinical MS program, which prepares students for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs).
