About The Position

The successful candidate will teach all lower and upper division courses in Art Education and lead all aspects of the K – 12 art education concentration. The Art Program at Northwest provides a rigorous, student-centered education that encourages risk-taking, exploration, and collaboration. We are a vibrant faculty with a vision for revitalizing our program to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We seek a dynamic colleague in art education to lead the concentration in Art Education and to contribute to the growth of the Art Program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching art education within a robust and collaborative art program at a comprehensive state university. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations, work collegially, and develop and maintain effective professional relationships within a multi-disciplinary school and the School of Education.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in art education or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years PK-12 art education teaching experience (public or private).

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24-26 credit hours per academic year, including all courses in Art Education.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Art Education program, including serving as art faculty team representative to the Teacher Education unit, observing student fieldwork (i.e., student teaching), mentoring and monitoring the progress of art education majors throughout their programs, and keeping the art education curriculum current with standards for continued accreditation and state certification.
  • Teach courses in Fiber Arts, operate relevant technologies, and manage class-related materials inventory related to the fiber arts studio area.
  • Teach other courses according to School needs, including studio courses and a collaborative art education course with the School of Education.
  • Maintain a sustained record of scholarship/creative activity.
  • Engage in student support by advising and mentoring Art Education students.
  • Engage in school and university service.
