About The Position

The Basic Sciences Department is seeking an Assistant Professor of Anatomy to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in human anatomy. This annual position also involves participation in scholarship, such as educational or anatomical research. The ideal candidate will have expertise in human anatomy, with a preference for those also skilled in neuroscience or physiology. The role requires a commitment to student learning, professional growth, and collaboration within the university.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DPM, Ed.D, or similar) in Anatomy or a closely related discipline. Clinical doctors may also apply.
• At least two years of experience teaching human gross anatomy; graduate level experience is preferred.
• At least two years of experience teaching human gross anatomy dissection; graduate level experience is preferred.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; ability to carry, push, pull, kneel, and stoop.
• Must be able to move about campus to accomplish instructional and service tasks.
• Must be able to teach in person at our Oakland campus and/or online live.
• Ability to read, write, compose, and edit complex documents.
• Ability to do deskwork/computer work for prolonged periods of time.
• Must be able to express ideas clearly through verbal and written communication.
• Ability to receive and interpret detailed information through verbal and written communication.

Nice To Haves

• Expertise in neuroscience or physiology will be preferred.
• Candidates with an M.S. degree may be considered based on teaching experience.
• Applicants who are also qualified to teach either Neuroanatomy or Physiology at the graduate are preferred.

• Demonstrate academic competence in gross anatomy and work with other faculty, staff, and departments to align curricula as needed.
• Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice; remain flexible in adapting course content for different cohorts.
• Demonstrate a high degree of self-efficacy, accountability for learner outcomes and advocacy for student success.
• Collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups within the University to increase student performance.
• Provide both lecture-based and laboratory-based instruction in human anatomy as well as physiology and/or neuroscience.
• Be open to teaching both in person and online lectures and laboratories.
• Perform service to the department by participating in departmental meetings.
• Perform service to the University by joining committees, attending seminars, meetings, and trainings.
• Perform scholarship at the level necessary for promotion to the next rank.
• Mentor students.
