About The Position

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law seeks applicants for an assistant professor of the Veterans Legal Services Clinic to teach and direct one clinical program. This is a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track position. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the practice of law and good standing in at least one state or the District of Columbia
  • Admission to the Arkansas bar or capable of admission within one year of hiring
  • Veterans Affairs (VA) - accreditation or eligibility for accreditation and prepared to apply upon hiring
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and practice law
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in person, in writing, and through electronic means of communication
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize data in decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students
  • Demonstrated ability to advise students
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and collaborate with colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and management skills
  • Proficiency in using electronic case-management systems
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • Prior experience in either clinical teaching of law students or supervision of other attorneys
  • Experience with the legal representation of veterans and/or military personnel
  • Interest in and efforts to develop a record as a legal scholar

Responsibilities

  • Design and teach a rigorous clinical course, including clinic seminar, and an additional doctrinal course, as needed
  • Achieve teaching goals
  • Screen and select clients for clinic representation
  • Represent clients and manage clinic operations
  • Supervise clinical students in work on client matters
  • Collaborate with the director of the VLSC Pro Bono Program
  • Collaborate with other supervising attorneys in the Bowen legal clinic
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners
  • Produce high-quality legal scholarship
  • Support the university through internal and external service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
