About The Position

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is seeking multiple faculty members for the Department of Occupational Therapy. The department has received approval to offer an Additional Location hybrid education program in Laredo, TX. Areas of expertise sought include Research methods, Theory, Mental Health, Cognitive Rehabilitation, Geriatrics, and Adult rehabilitation. Experience in developing a hybrid curriculum will be valued. UTMB, established in 1891, is a major academic health sciences center with a medical, nursing, health professions, and graduate biomedical schools, a research enterprise, and a health system. The School of Health Professions offers various degree programs and clinical training opportunities. The Department of Occupational Therapy's mission is to foster a community of educators, scholars, evidence-based practitioners, and leaders who generate, apply, and disseminate innovative knowledge about participation in everyday life.

Requirements

  • An academic doctorate such as a PhD in occupational therapy or a foundational discipline related to occupational therapy, such as psychology, rehabilitation sciences, movement sciences, or another related discipline, is preferred. Post-professional doctorates, such as OTDs, DHSc, DrPH, or DSc, are also invited to apply.
  • Eligible for appointment at the rank of a Professor depending on experience in academia.
  • An occupational therapist (OT) eligible for licensure in the state of Texas.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding.
  • Is an occupational therapist who holds an active, unrestricted OT license in any United States jurisdiction and Texas.
  • Holds the rank of a professor or eligible for the rank of a professor.
  • Has a minimum of 6 years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in an ACOTE accredited entry-level occupational therapy program.
  • Has experience in teaching, scholarship and service.
  • Has strong research skills.
  • Has record of/evidence of ability to secure research funding.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to resolve conflict and transparency.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience in the research area of interest is preferred.
  • Experience in developing a hybrid curriculum will be valued.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and publish research.
  • Engage in scholarly work.
  • Collaborate with UTMB researchers and obtain intramural and/or external funding for research or training programs.
  • Teach SHP courses.
  • Advise and mentor students in the OTD program.
  • Serve on department, school, and university level committees.
  • Guide students on research/capstone projects.
  • Serve on thesis and dissertation committees.
