About The Position

Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Health and Exercise Science in the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, starting in August 2027. The program is one of the College’s largest majors and immerses students in exercise and movement science through experiential learning, research, professional experiences, and individualized advising. It is connected to regional healthcare systems, biomedical research facilities, and public and nonprofit health and wellness organizations. Faculty and students share classrooms, research facilities, and equipment in the Cregger Center. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and laboratories, provide academic advising, mentor students in undergraduate research and/or professional experiences, maintain an active independent research program, and serve the department, College, and community. Teaching will include core and elective courses, with opportunities to develop courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise and contribute to general education. The program is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in strength and conditioning teaching and research. The annual teaching load is eight teaching units; lab instruction and advising contribute toward those units. This hire is part of a cluster of tenure-track positions in the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability. Faculty hired through this initiative are expected to cultivate meaningful collaborations across disciplines through teaching, scholarship, and service. Applicants should describe in their cover letter at least one specific collaboration opportunity involving two or more Roanoke College programs. The selected candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire; the College cannot provide visa sponsorship for this position.
