The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture seeks accomplished designers and educators for at least three full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor appointments beginning Fall 2027. The coordinated search covers Design and Speculative Practice; Building Performance and Environmental Systems; and Computational Design and Architectural Fabrication. Exceptional tenured candidates at a higher rank will also be considered. Faculty responsibilities include research or creative practice, teaching, mentorship, and service. The successful candidates will pursue scholarly or practice-based work that advances their fields and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. They will work primarily within the Architecture program and participate in the School of Architecture’s non-departmentalized, interdisciplinary community. Collaboration opportunities include the Cockrell School of Engineering and other university research communities, particularly in computation, robotics, materials, manufacturing, energy, and environmental systems. Candidates should be prepared to teach core and advanced design studios in undergraduate and graduate architecture curricula, as well as courses related to their expertise. The school prioritizes excellence in teaching, strong design ability, and an ambitious, design-oriented research or creative-practice agenda, and welcomes work that crosses or expands the stated search areas. In Design and Speculative Practice, the school seeks candidates whose built work, speculative projects, scholarship, or critical practice advance compelling disciplinary questions and connect them to design education and the profession. In Building Performance and Environmental Systems, relevant expertise may include envelope and facade design, passive and climate-responsive strategies, energy and performance simulation, measurement and sensing, thermal comfort, daylight, and indoor environmental quality. Candidates in this area should connect technical depth to architectural design and be able to teach required environmental systems and building-performance courses, research seminars, and design studios. In Computational Design and Architectural Fabrication, relevant expertise may include computational design, artificial intelligence, simulation, digital fabrication, robotics, and experimental making. The school particularly welcomes work linking computation and material intelligence to advanced manufacturing, prefabrication, responsive assemblies, or building-envelope systems, including climate-responsive construction or housing. Candidates must hold a terminal professional design degree or a PhD appropriate to the field, with a design orientation. They should demonstrate strong design capabilities, effective teaching or clear potential for teaching excellence, and potential for significant contributions through research, scholarship, or creative practice. Academic and professional backgrounds, including licensed practitioners, are welcome. Candidates considered at a higher rank should demonstrate a record commensurate with that rank.
