Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor, IEHS/CURES at its Detroit campus location. Recognizing the interdisciplinary linkages between environmental health and civil and environmental engineering objectives, the Institute of Environmental Health Sciences/Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (IEHS/CURES) and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) are excited to jointly recruit an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) to advance the goals of our urban-serving institution and promote our ongoing work as a “Gateway to a Healthy Detroit.” Our allied research missions join to enhance human health in the urban environment. The tenure home of this position will be in CEE and the successful candidate will start their work in the Fall 2026 semester. IEHS/CURES is headquarters for two National Institute of Environmental Health Science-funded centers: the environmental health sciences core center, “Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES)” (P30 ES020957) and the Superfund Research Program center, “Center for Leadership in Environmental Awareness and Research (CLEAR)” (P42 ES030991). Through research, community engagement, and education, IEHS/CURES researchers and community partners seek to discover, investigate, and solve complex environmental health problems that affect humans exposed to chemical and non-chemical stressors in a dynamic urban environment.

Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field, with demonstrated capabilities in environmental health, exposure science, or environmental epidemiology.

Nice To Haves

  • Having a professional engineering license, or the ability to obtain licensure within the first five years of employment, is preferred.
