About The Position

The Department of Sociology at McGill University is seeking to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor, commencing August 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will possess a quantitative and/or computational methods research profile, evidenced by published and ongoing work addressing sociological questions. Substantive specializations sought include political sociology (with topics such as populism, social movements, nationalism, democratic backsliding), medical sociology, economic sociology and stratification, or technology and society. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching quantitative methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Requirements

  • PhD in sociology or in a related field (or expect to receive PhD by the start of the position)
  • A strong emerging record of publications and independent program of research
  • Authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching as lecturer or teaching assistant is beneficial
  • Existing French language ability
  • Commitment to attain and maintain French competency
