About The Position

The Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to fill up to four full-time tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The ideal candidates will possess a strong capacity for research that positively impacts public health, advances the field of epidemiology, and supports the department's teaching objectives. As faculty members, they will be responsible for developing independently funded research portfolios, producing significant scholarly work, mentoring master's and doctoral students, and teaching core epidemiology methods and/or specialized courses. The department's core mission revolves around developing and applying research methodologies to understand health and disease patterns and causes, and utilizing this knowledge to enhance population health. The department offers robust training in research methods and diverse opportunities to apply epidemiological principles to various health issues.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
  • Show scholarly contributions to science.
  • Possess the capacity to obtain extramural funding that supports independent research.
  • Experience in classroom instruction.
  • Experience in mentoring master's and doctoral students.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrate a successful record of scholarship for future promotion to Associate Professor.
  • Demonstrate leadership of funded epidemiologic research (in the role of PI/MPI on grants or contracts) for future promotion to Associate Professor.
  • Demonstrate a track record for training graduate students (through mentoring and teaching) for future promotion to Associate Professor.
