About The Position

Alaska Christian College is seeking a Faculty member to serve as an Assistant Professor and Chair of the General Studies program. This on-site, part-time (0.8 FTE) exempt position reports to the Provost and is responsible for providing education, instruction, and mentoring to students. The role involves growing and promoting the General Studies program, overseeing adjunct faculty, developing and revising course materials, and ensuring instruction aligns with a biblical worldview and ACC procedures. The position also includes evaluating students, adhering to faculty policies, maintaining assessments, facilitating discussions, providing accommodations and advisement, maintaining a safe workspace, engaging in research, participating in professional development, and contributing to student and community growth. A Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual for the position is to be developed, along with other assigned duties. The role also involves supervisory responsibilities for adjunct faculty and teaching assistants, and an expectation of high-level customer service and fostering meaningful relationships for mutual growth in discipleship.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in instructional field or appropriate graduate work in instructional area.
• Successful experience in teaching undergraduate students, with a variety of courses.
• Demonstrated good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to incorporate new information on current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
• Ability to identify the educational needs of the students and develop formal educational or training programs to meet those needs.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality of all information seen or heard.
• Must be detail-oriented, with a high degree of accuracy and skill in all work performed.
• Must be able to function well in a cross-cultural environment, show a learning attitude, and willingness to be a team player.
• Must be able to work independently and show good judgment.
• Must be organized, efficient, and show good time management skills.
• Must be reliable and dependable with regular, timely attendance.
• Must have adequate physical capabilities to meet the responsibilities of the job.
• All newly hired exempt faculty members will begin employment at the rank of Assistant Professor if they have not earned a doctorate or terminal degree. If newly hired faculty members have an earned terminal degree, they may begin employment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Chair of the General Studies and General Education curriculum.
• Grows and promotes the General Studies program through connections with community partners and other colleges.
• Oversees adjunct faculty in the General Studies and General Education areas.
• Plan, evaluate, and revise course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, course content, and methods of instruction.
• Present course material in such a way that enables students to achieve a biblical worldview.
• Teach course material according to ACC procedures on syllabi and assessment.
• Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, examinations, and papers.
• Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
• Maintain and report course-related assessments in a timely manner.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions and instructional activities.
• Provide instructional and assessment accommodations to students with documented physical and learning disabilities.
• Provide academic advisement and mentoring to students as assigned.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and unobstructed workspace.
• Engage in research or scholarly activity.
• Participate in continuing study and professional development.
• Contribute to the growth and development of the student body through service to the college and community.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) manual for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.
