About The Position

The Department of Accounting & Finance in the Lucas College of Business at San José State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Finance to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate will teach a range of finance courses, including financial management, financial analytics, or banking, across undergraduate, MS Financial Analytics, and MBA programs. Responsibilities include conducting research for highly respected finance journals and contributing to service at the department, college, or university levels. The department emphasizes technology in its teaching and encourages cross-discipline research, housing Master of Science degrees in Accounting Analytics and Financial Analytics. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Finance by start of appointment
  • Scholarly Academic qualification under AACSB standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
  • US residence and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactory completion of background and reference checks (including criminal records and prior employment).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in corporate finance, investments, or financial institutions
  • Professional designations such as Chartered Financial Analyst
  • Excellent teaching experience at the university level

Responsibilities

  • Teach broadly in finance coursework, which may include financial management, financial analytics, or banking courses in our undergraduate, MS Financial Analytics, or MBA programs.
  • Engage in research targeted to highly respected finance journals.
  • Participate in service at department, college, or university levels.
  • Conduct research, develop grants, present professional papers, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Comply with requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Complete Clery Act training and immediately report Clery incidents to the institution.
  • Complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety).
  • Comply with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness.
