About The Position

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking an Assistant Professor in Elementary Education/Education Foundations for a full-time, 9-month, renewable fixed-term faculty position in the School of Education, starting in Fall 2026. The role involves teaching an average of 24 credits on the Winona, MN campus. The university is looking for a scholar-practitioner who can collaborate within the department, across the University, and with the local community. Preference is given to applicants with experience in teacher preparation and/or teacher professional development, especially in elementary education within Catholic school settings. Candidates must hold a Master’s in Education or a related field with a focus on Elementary Education, with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. being preferred. Ideal candidates will have certification or training in structured literacy, science of reading, and evidence-based reading instruction approaches. A strong commitment to student-centered teaching and/or research, a background in evidence-based teaching methods, and the ability to teach, advise, and mentor diverse teacher candidates are essential. The position requires supporting teacher education students in making learning culturally relevant and connected to pressing global issues.

Requirements

  • A Master’s in Education or related field
  • Focus on Elementary Education
  • Evidence of at least three years elementary education teacher of record
  • Strong commitment to student-centered teaching and/or research
  • Strong background in evidence-based teaching methods
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor candidates who will teach in diverse educational and cultural contexts
  • Prepared to support teacher education students to make learning culturally relevant and connected to pressing issues for humanity
  • Must support, respect, and advance the mission of Saint Mary's University as a Lasallian Catholic institution

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field (ABD will be considered)
  • Certification or demonstrable background and training in structured literacy, science of reading and evidence-based approaches to reading instruction (CORE, LETRS, 95% Group, Orton-Gillingham, IMSE, IMSLEC, or similar)
  • Experience in teacher preparation and/or teacher professional development, particularly if this experience has focused on elementary education in Catholic school settings
  • Experience teaching in Catholic schools/Catholic education
  • Experience in teacher education preparation
  • Experience in program development and accreditation
  • Evidence of college teaching experience
  • Record of research and scholarly production
  • Expertise in diverse scholarly and pedagogical approaches and experience mentoring members of underrepresented groups
