About The Position

The Department of History at Auburn University seeks applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in Early American history, with a focus on the period before 1815. Review of applications will begin on November 6, 2026 and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected. Requirements

• Ph.D. in History or a related field is required; outstanding candidates who are ABD will be considered but completion of the degree is expected prior to the start of the appointment on August 16, 2027.
• Provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a writing sample of no more than 25 pages, and the names and contact information for three referees.
• Must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally during employment.

Responsibilities

• Teach the first half of the US Survey
• Teach an upper-level class on the American Revolution
• Teach graduate seminars on Early American history
• Develop specialized courses in their fields of expertise
• Contribute to Auburn’s core history curriculum (in-person instruction)
