About The Position

The Department of Psychological Science at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie-classified R2 institution, is seeking an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) who values its Mission and shares its commitment to inclusive excellence and the building of a just society. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to LMU’s teacher-scholar model, which involves conducting research and creative work, teaching a diverse student body, mentoring students in research, participating in service activities, and working towards greater equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility. This is a tenure-track faculty appointment requiring a Ph.D. or terminal degree in Psychology or a closely related field by August 15, 2027. The position is a full-time, 9-month academic appointment with salary paid over 12 months for continuous benefits coverage.

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. or terminal degree in Psychology or a closely related field by the position start date of August 15, 2027.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to LMU’s teacher-scholar model.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate students in their program of research.
  • Address their commitment to and any past and/or potential contributions to advancing LMU’s mission and promoting the success, sense of belonging, and thriving of students from a variety of lived experiences.
  • Submit a Cover letter (not to exceed 2 pages).
  • Submit a Curriculum vitae, including education, publications with corresponding digital object identifiers (DOIs), teaching experience, and relevant leadership and service experience (e.g., academic, professional, and/or community).
  • Submit a Research statement (not to exceed 3 pages), including plans for establishing a research program in your area of expertise at LMU and how you plan to involve undergraduate students in that program.
  • Submit a Statement of teaching philosophy (not to exceed 3 pages), including resonance and/or alignment with LMU’s mission, a liberal arts education, the practice of Ignatian Pedagogy, and/or your overall vision for yourself as a teacher-scholar.
  • Arrange for three academic and/or professional letters of recommendation, on institutional or professional letterhead (PDFs only) and emailed directly from the letter writer to [email protected].

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an active program of scholarship.
  • Teaching and advising undergraduate students.
  • Mentoring undergraduate students in research.
  • Contributing to department and university service.
  • Teaching a diverse undergraduate student body across a range of undergraduate courses, including general psychology, statistical methods, research methods, and specialty courses in their area of expertise.
  • Contributing to the LMU Core Curriculum, such as through the development of a First-Year Seminar and/or courses incorporating engaged learning pedagogies.
